For the very same reason we never let our kids drive a car (apart from it being illegal), we shouldnt put a kid on an adult-sized ATV. Its dangerous and we know that they are not capable of handling the size and speed of a machine that size. That is precisely why buying an ATV made for kids makes sense. It makes perfect sense to invest in a kid-friendly ATV because we want our kids to have fun and be safe at the same time. If anything unfortunate were to happen while your kid is operating an adult-sized ATV, the weight of the ATV will crush a child. Compare that to a Kids ATV, the chances of that ever happening is much less. In our eyes, buying a Kid ATV for kids is not an optionits a necessity. In fact, in some states, kids below the age of 16 are not allowed to operate an adult-sized ATV. And its a good thing that the law makes it mandatory for kids below 16 to operate a kid ATV too. The rule of thumb is that a child between the ages of 6 and 12 can only manage an ATV with the engine size of up to 70cc. While age is often deemed the determining factor when purchasing ATV for kids, there are many other factors we have to take into account too. It is one of the most important factors (as far as the law is concerned) but we should also take into account the size and maturity of the kid. For example, even if your child is 18 years of age, if he or she is a little bit on the small or short side, keep your kid on an ATV made for kids. The reason for this is that the kids feet should always easily reach the ground when the need arises. When the kid puts his or her feet on the ground, it should be slightly bent. If he or she is on tiptoes, it means that the height of the ATV is too high for a kid that size. The kid ATV should always fit to the size and height of the child and not the other way around. Whenever the kid rides the kid ATV, he or she should be completely comfortable and have complete balance and control over the machine. Maturity of the child also plays a huge role in determining whether the kid ATV is suitable for the kid or not. Is he or she able to reach the controls comfortably? Is the child old enough to shift the gears? If not, you may need to purchase a kid ATV with automatic shift gears. And one more thing, if you think, for some reason, that you want some level of control over your kids ATV, buy one with kill switches and parental safety features on it. That way, youll know that you can intervene whenever you think your kid is in trouble.
